How to Play Experience Abstraction — Complete Walkthrough

From clicking Play to owning the endgame: the complete walkthrough of a full Experience Abstraction session, both roles included.

Experience Abstraction gameplay area
The social hub where every session begins.

Phase 1: Spawn (minutes 0–2)

You load into the bright central hub with up to 29 players. Nothing threatens you yet. Do three things: note the room’s exits, spot the darkest corridor you can see (that’s where trouble will come from), and decide your goal for this session — abstract or survive. The two goals play completely differently.

Phase 2A: If your goal is to abstract

  1. Leave the hub toward the map edge — distance from spawn means fewer players and less light (see the map guide).
  2. Find a spot that is both dark and empty to stack two routes at once.
  3. Hold position while distortion builds. Do not wander back toward players or light.
  4. Enjoy the transformation — and catch the Caine sequence.
  5. Now play the villain: patrol corridors between bright rooms and pressure survivors. Full strategy in the abstracted playstyle guide.

Phase 2B: If your goal is to survive

  1. Stay in the hub until the first abstraction happens — you are completely safe until then.
  2. When the first player turns, form your pair or trio. Solo survival is a losing strategy; see avoiding abstraction.
  3. Establish your rotation: the two or three brightest multi-exit rooms. Move between them as pressure arrives.
  4. Never flee alone into darkness — that single mistake ends more survival runs than every abstracted player combined.
  5. Endgame: as the server tips mostly-abstracted, tighten your rotation and stay patient. Being last normal player standing is the game’s real victory condition — master it with the last survivor guide.

Phase 3: Reset and remix

Rejoin to reset your state and swap goals. A full evening of Experience Abstraction is really three games: the race to abstract, the survival gauntlet, and the social meta of convincing your friends to walk into dark rooms with you.
