Why Can’t I Abstract? (Troubleshooting)

Standing in a dark corner and nothing’s happening? Work down this list — it’s almost always one of these.

The checklist

  1. You’re not actually meeting the condition. Dim isn’t dark, and “away from the crowd” isn’t isolated if one wanderer keeps passing by. Go darker, go further.
  2. You keep interrupting yourself. Progress resets or pauses when you break the condition — every trip back toward light or people costs you your buildup. Commit to the spot and stand still.
  3. You haven’t waited long enough. There’s no visible timer; only escalating distortion. If distortion hasn’t started, the condition likely isn’t registering — reposition. If it has, keep waiting.
  4. Another player is “keeping you company”. For the isolation route, a nearby player — even one you can’t see behind a wall — can keep you connected. Move to a genuinely dead part of the map.
  5. The abstracted player moved away. Proximity needs sustained closeness. If your abstracted target roams, follow them or pick a camper instead.
  6. An update changed the pacing. pawlooz actively updates the game and abstraction speed is tunable. Check the update log, then re-run the timing test.
  7. You’re in the wrong game. TADC fan games are cloned constantly. Verify you’re in the real Experience Abstraction by pawlooz — Place ID 131320856116838 — via the official links page.

Still stuck?

Rejoin the server (fixes desynced states), then run the fastest known combo: the darkest spot on the map’s far edge, alone, standing still. If that doesn’t abstract you within a few minutes, the game likely changed in an update — and this page and the update log will be revised once we’ve re-tested.
